From Logistics to Leadership: 2026 Trends Shaping the Business Events Industry

In January, Meeting Priorities joined our fellow business event leaders for PCMA’s Convening Leaders 2026. It was an extraordinary week of honoring the industry’s legacy – going back to Philadelphia, where it all started – and celebrating the bold transformation of the meeting and events industry.
In celebration of its 70th anniversary, PCMA also recognized a small group of industry leaders – including Meeting Priorities founder and CEO, Lauren Kramer – whose influence, leadership, and contributions helped shape PCMA.
This year’s event focused on legacy, momentum, and unity. Collectively, we face significant challenges, including uncertainty in our political climate, rising costs and tighter budgets, and the growing competition for people’s time and attention. However, this week celebrated the unique potential of our industry and the platform of meetings and events to build unity, connection, and engagement.
Whether through conversations in the Solutions Center or during sessions, the following themes stood out as top trends for the business events industry in 2026 and beyond.
Human-Centered Leadership
As leaders, we have the potential to shape cultures where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to do their best work. Events and programs create space for organizations to build human-centered connections and dedicate time outside of day-to-day responsibilities to have conversations grounded in empathy, purpose, and trust.
As leaders within the meetings industry, we’re called upon to unlock the full potential of our teams by leading with curiosity and care. People-first practices are not optional – they’re foundational to building resilience, innovation, and long-term success.
Purpose Over Logistics
As we’ve said before, the success of an event is no longer measured by revenue, attendance, or flawless execution. It’s measured by community engagement, impact, and belonging.
With growing competition for people’s time and energy, event leaders must design experiences and programs around intentional outcomes. This shifts the role of meeting professionals from logistics experts to experiential leaders, responsible for both how the event runs and what it achieves.
Inclusion & Belonging
Inclusion and belonging were also central to conversations throughout the meeting. When meetings reflect a wide range of lived experiences and perspectives, they are more relevant, engaging, and transformative.
This requires designing from the margins. Prioritizing equity and access in programming, technology, and logistics provides all stakeholders with opportunities for participation and leadership.

Next-Gen Talent Investment
As PCMA celebrates its 70th anniversary, we honor the industry's growth and the work that’s been done to build pathways for the next generation of business event professionals.
The association recognized a widening gap in the profession and, since 2020, has made intentional efforts to remove barriers to entry and create accessible pathways for emerging professionals.
Beyond our industry, events provide opportunities for students and early-career professionals to build networks, gain exposure, and develop confidence before entering the job market. Mentorship and leadership are competitive advantages, and strengthening any industry requires an investment in the workforce pipeline.
Future-Ready Strategy
Looking ahead, leaders emphasized the importance of long-term thinking – not just for the next event cycle but in looking to 2030 and beyond. Future-ready strategies balance innovation with practical execution, ensuring new ideas are scalable, sustainable, and aligned with organizational capacity.
Rather than chasing trends, the focus is on thoughtful experimentation, continuous learning, and building adaptive frameworks that allow organizations to evolve alongside changing attendee expectations, technology, and global conditions.
Meeting Priorities is grateful to be part of the PCMA community and for the opportunity to share our expertise at Convening Leaders as well as bring innovative practices back to our clients and our community of event professionals.
